Summertime, summertime and shift happens

This is what summer is supposed to be like: lazy and relaxed.

But not this summer. Unless of course, you're my cat, when it's always summer. While visiting Swu on Swubird's Nest in the comments, he asked where everybody went this month? Well, I don't know about everybody, but I know where I went. I went frantic.

Perhaps it's worldwide, this overwhelm of everything. I know that amongst my friends and family, including my blogger friends, everyone seems to be in the same busy, busy, busy state. For example, I've filled every weekend in August! All with what I want to do and will love doing, but still, enough already.

Yet, I suspect and hope that this is a symptom of a healthy shift. When major change happens, it can be frenetic, especially right at the beginning of the change when the most energy is needed to shift. Most of the ultra-busy I know are that way because they are re-evaluating and then re-inventing portions (if not all) of their lives. In good ways.

Perhaps the answer then, is not to resent the lack of the summertime lazies, but to embrace the energy of change. Of course, it'd help if I had time to get the dishes and laundry done...

What about you, dear reader? Do you see major change in your life? If so, is it good or bad? Or neither? How do you get the laundry done?

Laundry? That's not too hard. I can throw it in, then run back to the computer. What I find little time for is dusting, mopping, and cleaning bathrooms. The daylight seems to wane earlier and earlier, either that or my clock is getting faster.

Me, no changes at all. :-)

Laundry is at the bottom of the list...although I think it'd be a lot more fun than cleaning bathrooms and kitchens...

Eek! I've been thrashing about, and not posting to my blog or commenting on others. I think to some extent in summer I resent following rules and doing the shoulds. So, laundry? DH does that. Tidying house? Ha! Writing? As long as I remember I'm doing it because I love it.
Shift? Change? Not sure. I think social media, that's supposed to simplify communication, does put increased burdens on us. But Mom always said I don't HAVE to answer the phone. Nor must we tweet, etc.

Helen, my problem with laundry is if I get into my pages, I forget I haven't dried my clothes.

Wrinkle free, NOT!

Ah yes, Beth, and of course you're working on moving in...lots of cleaning there. I know that like me, you'd rather be writing!

Kathy--I've seen some real "shift" in your writing--better and better. And when I get hot, I just want to sleep...like Baxter the cat.

Hi Conda!

Laundry? I'm sure you've heard underwear is wearable at least 4 times? 1. normal, 2. backwards, 3. inside out normal, and 4. inside out backwards. Well, at least this is what I've tried to convince my husband of. He's not buying it though. I told him he could always go al la fresco!

Hilarious! And yet hmmm...and of course in this heat al fresco is a healthy way to go!

Yes, I absolutely see changes in my life.

I am getting up there in years now, and so far I've been pretty good. But recently rheumatism in my hands and knees has made it more difficult for me to get around. I've always loved to walk: the beach, the parks, the deserts, the woods, everywhere. But now I have to make a major change and do something else. My son calls it "finding my new normal." I thought that was clever. As we change we will no longer be our same old selves. So we have to learn to accept our new normal---whatever that may be.

I think the same principle applies to our writing. Not to be too simplistic, but as we grow and hone our writing skills we slowly evolve to a new level excellence. We change. In a literary sense, we are no longer who we were. We have established a new normal.

Happy trails.

Conda, my dryer has a fluff cycle. Uses additional energy, but helps for those times I forget the clothes.

"New Normal"! I love it. Your son is a wise man, Swu. As are you. Change is inevitable (and happening all the time) but we can affect how the change happens, write better, etc. As for me, I'm wearing out, not rusting (same could be said of you!).

I can understand Swubird's question, but I should know the answer, for it seems I've been there too! I can't believe I've been so long away from your blog. I shall have to go over my system. Something amiss! Maybe it's amiss worldwide, for sure I've not been getting the visitors I had been, not since early May, I've not. Ah, well, to quote my mum: What is to be, will be - even if it never happens. (Good post, b y the way!)

Hmm, Helen, I'll have to check mine and see if I can fluff (of course if the clothes are completely dry, nothing works save to wash again!

Conda Douglas said...

Thanks Dave, I really do believe it's worldwide--I'm thinking we've reached a tipping point where change is happening for almost everyone in all sorts of ways. What will happen? I don't know, but the world will be different!

I LOVE the cat picture! Just makes me want to pat that cute little belly! As for me this summer hasn't been quite as busy, but that's because it's been rather hot and rainy, so it's hard to spend as much time outside as I'd like. The rest of the year I have to squeeze outdoor activities in with my regular life.

It's quite a big belly--my cat weighs 18! lbs!
