"I'm not dead yet. I'm feeling much better and..."

...I think I could blog a bit.

Yes, I mangled Monty Python--I doubt they mind. In fact, I think they like being mangled. Or at least twisted.

This is a post to mention I'm crawling back into what passes for my normal creative life, with an addition of film, which is no longer film but now digital. What did I learn most these last few weeks? EVERYTHING TAKES LONGER TO DO THAN I THINK IT WILL.

Repeat, repeat, repeat. Time is supposed to be malleable (ala Einstein) so how come I can't stretch every minute, every hour, every day enough? Because everything takes longer than I think!

Do you have this problem?

Take it slow and easy and everything will fall into place. :)

Tell me about it. I set two weeks aside to concentrate on finishing my novel and all I managed was to a clean up 23,000 words and add on another 7,000 but at least the thing is now finishable. We take what we can get.

That is because you are not travelling fast enough through space, Conda - unless I've misunderstood him, which would surprise nobody.

Yes. I'm trying to learn to deal with it.

Angela,

Wise words and why do writers have so much trouble with patience?

Conda Douglas said...

Jim,

30,000 words and finishable?! I'll take that!

Conda Douglas said...

Dave, true enough, although I am, like Alice, "running as fast as I can." But I suppose the Red Queen is correct when she says, "You'll have to run twice as fast as that."

Carol, me too.

Yes. I sit at my computer and turn it on, then check the clock to discover that it's mid-afternoon. And I can't see that I've made a dent in any project!

That's exactly why some folks take years to finish their first novel. Every time I read my manuscript, the more changes I want to make. Is this some kind of universal law?

Happy trails

Ahhh...time. *sigh* There's never enough of it, and we all underestimate the time things will take. I choose to think of that as being optimistic.

Also, I love Monty Python. Mangled and twisted, even better. :)

I'm new here. *waves* Nice to meet you.

Helen, actually, you amaze me with all you get done!

Conda Douglas said...

Swu--I believe it is indeed a universal law--same as the one that says every writer seems to have more success than me!

Lola--welcome to my blog! I've visited yours and oh, what fun!

Whatever the truth of it, you have lifted my spirit - to realise that it's not just me thinking everything takes longer than I had thought it would. Thanks for that.

Oh my yes! I seem to get behinder and behinder, but I do love your Monty mangling.

Made me smile, which it's always important to take time for, regardless of how far behind we feel.

I'm back again to tell you I tagged you on my blog.

Thanks for stopping by my blog last night. I'm excited about my book cover too. I hope they do it quickly!

As you say here, everything DOES take longer than you think it will!!

Dave, yes, us neurotic authors always believe we are the only ones with these probs, don't we?

Conda Douglas said...

Enid--ah, sleeping...I remember sleeping...

Jennifer Shirk said...

Oh my goodness yes. Things always take longer than I think too.

Conda Douglas said...

Jennifer--sometimes too, too long.

Ann,

Let us know when you have the cover!
