10 Weird Things

Beth of Beth's Adventures asked for a list of 10 things people might not know about me. So...
1. I can chew my own toenails, but don't.
2. I grew up in a ski resort but prefer to ice skate. I was so small when I started skiing I kept falling off the ski lift.
3. I met the love of my life on Match.com (Hi Bruce!).
4. I love basenjis (an African hunting hound, barkless but not silent, not obedient but loving) and I'm on my second one, 20 years of basenjis!
5. I started college when I was 15 (and made it through by attending a liberal arts school and taking English and History classes only).
6. I'm of mostly Scots descent. I've been to England and spent a summer in Ireland but I've never been to Scotland.
7. I have eyebrows, but my hair is so light as I am a natural redhead you can't see them. Means I have to pencil them in, BUT I never shave my legs either!
8. My oddest job: hmm, I've had lots, maybe cold sales calling for a guy with a cold storage truck business?

Okay, that's only eight, but I'd love to hear from my readers...what are a few weird things about you? Share!

I was wondering in which ski resort was it that you were brought up?

Interesting set of facts.

Dave, it was Sun Valley, Idaho. Blast of a place to grow up. And yes, I knew Papa Hemingway. (Ketchum, Idaho is the town next to the resort.) But I was too little to remember, darn it!

Great post. However, on this subject my profile speaks for itself.

My mother was raised by foster parents, and I was born to her and an unknown father. She was five-foot-two-inches tall and had bright blue eyes. I am six-foot-three inches tall and have dark brown eyes. As time passed, I acquired two additional stepfathers, however, a non-blood related uncle who had been raised by his stepfather brought me up. His wife was my blood aunt who had also been raised by foster parents. She was five-foot-four-inches tall and had blue eyes. Again, that’s a stark contrast to my own height and eye color. I had three additional uncles and three additional aunts who weren’t blood related to me or to my parental aunt and uncle. I also had two additional aunts who were my mother’s half sisters, so I guess they must have been my half aunts. That means I also had two additional uncles who weren’t blood related to me. I had four cousins who were not related to me, and three cousins related to me from my half aunts. I suppose they were my half cousins. I had two sets of grandparents who were not blood related to me. I had one non-blood related sister who had been adopted into the family, and after I was grown, I raised two children who were not blood related to me. Next time around, I hope it’s not so complicated.

My goodness, Swu--complicated doesn't begin to cover it. And DNA and height doesn't always make any sense. One grandmother of mine was 6'3", the other 4'10". When they lived together after WWII, they made quite the pair!

I almost stopped at the image of you chewing your toenails!

I'm trying to think of something weird about me. Hmm. Here's a story about me that I wrote as a screenplay scene for a class. One time while in college, I drove home for the weekend. I pulled into my mother's trailer park only to find nothing but the steps that used to lead up to her trailer. Nothing else. She'd moved and forgotten to tell me.

I thought that was a great story. But the other students in the class sat and stared at me after I read it out loud. They thought it was sad. I thought it was funny. I eventually tracked her down.

Funny story to me too, and poignant. And also one of those "unbelievable if in a fiction story, but true" tales. Talk about letting your children go!

Hi Conda!

One weird thing about me is I tend to wake up too early (between 3 and 4 am). At least my husband thinks it's weird. I think it's normal and I get a lot of work done on the computer without interruption.

Have a Great day!

Oooh, I'm so jealous Muse! I'd love to have that quiet time to write!
