We didn't do anything this year. No fireworks. No driving all the way to the crowded park, laying down a blanket and watching the show. I guess we're getting too old and too tired.
It's against the law to have fireworks in our neighborhood. But, of course, some kids did it anyway. So we heard firecrackers up until about midnight. It was annoying, but no harm was done.
I would like to have gone to the beach. We haven't seen the ocean in about four years. The temperature was in the nineties here at home. It was probably ten degrees cooler at the beach. Parking is ten dollars. Can you believe that?
So much for seeing the ocean. We can't lay in the sun anymore anyway. You know, skin cancer and all that scary stuff. Every time I see a suntanned teenager I wonder how they'll feel in thirty years.
The experts keep telling us to wear SPF 50. Then it was reduced to 30. Then they said nothing really protects you from those deadly ultraviolet rays. It's best to stay home under the protection of the roof. Where's the fun in that?
Well anyway, another year has gone by and we're still here. There's always a blessing.
